Is there an event like the Olympics, where music is the main event instead of sports?

I realized my hopes of joining to the Olympics to win a medal for my country is just a dream .. : (However, I must say … I'm good pretttttyyyyyyy to play guitar, and I understand the scales and the resolutions of the theories, doing my own improvisation, solos, etc. Is there an event like the Olympics of music?

There are contests in the world for a musical performance, composition, composition and recording. Some are well known (IKE, Grammy Awards, American Idol, Country Music Awards John Lennon Songwriting Contest, etc. These are commercial companies to include in their figures and measures the amount of money that has been or will be, these are popularity contests. contests instrumental and vocal music together, which most people call "classical" music, are held in countries around the world. Many of these events in honor of a great artist of the past like the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, and some living artists reference, such as Van Cliburn Piano Competition. (Van Cliburn won Tchaikovsky Competition, as a young man.) There are also competitions for jazz, bluegrass, folk, samba, vocals gamelon and perhaps every conceivable genre and language. Some works masterpieces of Western music take over an hour to complete, and the opera can last up to 4 hours or more. Imagine trying to see a competition of bands from 50 countries compete for the gold medal in Beethoven, Mahler and Ravel? I suppose that early "heat" could be decided by the registry, the only "final" for live performance, but creates its own set of problems: records can be "improved" errors can be eliminated. I think it's almost impossible to an "Olympics" of music because 1) musical tastes are very different, 2) determine the merit of the perfomance or musical composition is very subjective, and 3) any attempt to organize and host an event so soon to become so commercialized that the hype around the event would eclipse the merit artistic competitors. Ultimately, the music, like all art, is a very personal experience that we all have our "champions" leading us so that athletics is not.
